Due to security during the war, it was difficult for Churchill to slip away to secret summit meetings with Roosevelt and Stalin, often on a war ship somewhere. So, they found a man who was Churchill's double, and while Churchill was gone, this man dressed in his clothes, and was no doubt smoking a cigar, to
be seen outside his house, or in his car, to fool any inquisitive spies. That was pretty resourseful, don't you think? For normal war operations, Churchill had rooms that were sparsely furnished as an office and a bedroom in London. It was a bunker that was reinforced under a building The entrance was protected by a wall of many sand-bags.
In his office he had an operations phone that kept him in touch with every battle on every front.
On the wall, there were maps and charts,to follow all the victories and losses that were reported.
We made a visit to London a few years ago, and saw these rooms, and heard a personal audio commentary of how things were, back then. Quite often Churchill wore a siren suit,(one piece). I expect he kept a good supply of cigars and brandy for any moments of relaxation.
